When to visit Egypt?

October to April for the temples, year-round for the Red Sea: the season-by-season guide to picking the right moment, region by region.

The best time, in a nutshell

High season runs from November to February: bright sun, mild days around 22–25 °C in the Nile Valley and cool nights. It's the ideal time to combine Cairo, Luxor and Aswan without suffering from the heat.

October, March and April are our favourite months: almost as pleasant, fewer crowds at the sites and gentler prices. Summer (June to August) is still doable, especially by the sea, but the south of the country becomes scorching.

    Region by region

Egypt doesn't have a single climate. The right moment depends mostly on where you spend the most time.

    • Nile Valley (Luxor, Aswan): October to April. Summer is very hot here, often above 40 °C.
    • Cairo & Giza: pleasant from October to May; the sky is sometimes hazy with heat in high summer.
    • Red Sea (Hurghada, Marsa Alam, Sharm): all year round. The water stays swimmable even in winter (21–24 °C).
    • Desert & Siwa Oasis: autumn and spring. Avoid summer and the freezing nights of January.

    Month by month

To get your bearings at a glance:

    • December to February: ideal for the sites; book early around Christmas and New Year.
    • March and April: our favourite window, mild everywhere, gorgeous light on the Nile.
    • May to September: very hot in the south, but perfect for the Red Sea and diving.
    • October and November: the heat eases, the sites empty out, excellent value for money.

    Our tips for choosing well

A few habits that make all the difference:

    • Visit the temples early in the morning: fewer crowds, less heat, better light.
    • Combine the Nile and the Red Sea: temples in the cool, then rest with your feet in the water.
    • For a hot-air balloon in Luxor, plan for dawn: that's when the sky is calmest.
    • Whatever the season, we adapt your pace and visiting hours — the whole point of a private trip.
